One of the most complex steps in setting up your Local Area Network (LAN) is going to be the wiring of your office. Depending on the physical layout of your office, this may be a simple matter of drilling holes and dropping wires, or a complex inside-the-wall wiring solution.
Your organisation requires cables to connect each computer to the hub and/or switch. The primary types of cables used include twisted pair and fibre optic cables. There is also coax cable that is widely installed in older networks, but is not recommended for new network installations.
The most common type of wiring used in most offices these days is known as Category 5 (Cat 5) twisted pair cable. This type of twisted pair cable can support network speeds up to 100 Mbps.
